INTRODUCTION

This course is designed for students to appreciate the concepts and principles of midwifery & obstetrical nursing. It helps them to acquire knowledge and skills in rendering nursing care to normal and high risk pregnant woman during antenatal, natal and post natal periods in hospitals and community settings. The course also includes the development of skills in managing normal and high risk neonates.

AIM

  • Recognise the trends and issue in midwifery & obstetrical nursing.
  • Assessment of antenatal women, women in labour and post natal mothers.
  • Conduct vaginal examinations.
  • Conduct deliveries.
  • Conduct resuscitation of new-borns.
  • Assist in C-sections, MPT’s and other surgical procedures
  • Provide comprehensive care to mother and neonates.
  • Counsel mother and family on parenthood and family welfare services.
